Our Mission

For decades, the broadcast industry has talked about the need for a talent system to bring new talent to radio. For the first time ever, the National Radio Talent System brings to the industry an innovative program that delivers entry-level talent qualified to excel in radio stations and broadcast groups throughout the state and region and across America.

The Hubbard Radio Talent Institute discovers, attracts, teaches and creates opportunity for talented, enthusiastic and well educated young adults who have a passion for the broadcast industry. College students, recent graduates and grad students work through an intensive 10-days to bring them to a better understanding of each aspect of the industry, including on-air, programming, writing, news, sports, sales, promotions, Videography, Podcasting, social media, engineering and pratically all aspects of radio; all students also participate in RAB training and take the exam to earn their Radio Marketing Professional Certification.

The Hubbard Radio Talent Institute prepares the students to excel in entry-level positions upon their graduation and better ensures they get a start in and have a successful career in broadcasting.

Many in broadcasting often ask, “Where is the next generation of talent coming from?” We now know the answer. Students who have completed the Institute are now working for Hubbard Radio, iHeartMedia, Beasley Media Group, Entercom, Cumulus Media, Alpha Media, Forever Communications, Saga Communications, Commonwealth Broadcasting, Curtis Media, 7 Mountains Media, Midwest Family, Total Traffic, DDBO, NASCAR, CNN and others.

Part of the goal is to prepare students, building on the already excellent education they are getting at their university, to the point that they can walk into a professional radio station environment and not only be comfortable, but to excel in every area of the business, from on-air to programming to sales to management...we expect no less than to prepare a future generation of broadcast leaders.

The National Radio Talent Team works throughout the year with universities and to connect with both young talent who want to be in broadcasting and with radio professionals who embrace the vision and believe and support the mission of bringing young talent into the industry today and who will be leaders in the industry tomorrow as radio continues to thrive well into this 21st century.

The vision of a Radio Talent System has become reality and now radio professionals recruit from young talent who are just as determined and passionate about getting into radio as you were. And the talent system continues to grow with more institutes across the country and support from broadcaster groups, individual broadcasters, and broadcast associations.

Due to the efforts of the Hubbard Radio Talent Institute at Northern Arizona University, we are discovering and preparing young talent from across the state and region for a career in broadcasting.
